Oùcécap’s take
From London, Paris lies south-east, at 148°, just 342 km away, much as a flat map shows. From New York, though, a flat map would put it east, at 81°, while the compass says 54°, north-east. To place it another way, Paris shares its latitude with Ulaanbaatar, and Niamey lies due south of it, on almost the same meridian.
