Oùcécap’s take
Seen from New York, London shows how a flat map misleads: it points you east, at 78°, while the compass says 51°, north-east, because the shortest route crosses Newfoundland and Ireland. From Montreal, it is 55° rather than 83°. For a landmark further afield, London lies due north of Accra and on the same latitude as Astana, in Kazakhstan.
