By compass, Panama City is due west of London, at 267°, 8,496 km away, whereas a flat map would point you south-west, at 237°. The shortest route crosses the whole North Atlantic before ending in the Caribbean Sea. Another curiosity: Panama City’s antipode is 767 km from Jakarta, and its latitude is that of Addis Ababa.
