Oùcécap’s take
A flat map puts New Delhi east of New York, at 96°; the compass says 26°, north-east, because the shortest route crosses Greenland, northern Norway and Russia. From London too, the map misleads: 111° against 80°, both east, via Ukraine, Central Asia and Afghanistan. Kathmandu, for its part, lies due east of New Delhi, 801 km away.
