Oùcécap’s take
Cilaos is the heart of the island: the town nestles at the bottom of its cirque, barely 4 km from the summit of the Piton des Neiges. A trick to find it: it sits almost on the straight line between Saint-Denis and Saint-Pierre. From Saint-Pierre, aim due north (358°); from Saint-Denis, due south (175°). In between, the cliffs hide everything. Your compass sees right through them.
