Oùcécap’s take
Chișinău lies due east of London, at 92°, 2,147 km away. From New York, though, a flat map would point you east at 85°, while the compass says 45°, north-east: the shortest route crosses Newfoundland, Scotland and Poland. To place Moldova’s capital, think of Kyiv, 400 km to the north, and of Ulaanbaatar, which sits on the same latitude.
