Oùcécap’s take
Muscat is due north of Saint-Denis, on Réunion: aim at 4°, 4,959 km away. From London, though, a flat map would put it south-east, at 121°, while the compass says 99°, east, over Turkey and Iran. From New York, the gap reaches 55°: 99° on the map, 44° on the compass. Another landmark: Muscat shares its latitude with Havana.
