Oùcécap’s take
On a flat map, Madrid looks due east of New York, at 90°; the compass says 66°, north-east. From London, no surprise: aim south, at 194°, 1,265 km away. Dig straight down from Madrid and you would surface just 163 km from Wellington. Madrid also shares its latitude with Beijing.
