Oùcécap’s take
Copenhagen lies on the same latitude as Moscow, and due north of Rome: from Rome, the compass reads 0°. From London, aim north-east, at 56°, for 955 km. From New York, a flat map would suggest 75°, east; the compass says 43°, north-east, because the shortest route crosses Newfoundland and the far north of Scotland. Berlin lies 355 km to the south.
