Oùcécap’s take
Canberra is so far from London, 16,982 km, that a flat map leads you badly astray: it would have you aim south-east, at 123°, while the compass says 66°, north-east, across Asia. From Saint-Denis on Réunion, it is the other way round: 100° on the map, east, 124° on the compass, south-east. A landmark: Port Moresby is due north of the Australian capital, 2,878 km away.
